Evaluation system

Our evaluation system was developed at UABC, and has been a fundamental part of the Contest. Over the years different formats have been used, from the most traditional to the most innovative. Including developing and upgrading Software that is constantly updated according to the latest advancements in technological and academic research.

This innovative software allows us to keep an online record of tastings, carried out simultaneously from different locations. Favoring the sensory analysis process of the participating samples is our main objective.

Currently, the software developed at UABC operates in two modes:

Registration: for wineries to register the labels of their participating wines.
Evaluation: for judges to issue their ratings on a computer.

After the evaluation, results are obtained in approximately 15 minutes.

UABC is proud to share a software that participating judges consider an innovative, efficient and highly relevant system for Latin America and the world. This is compared with other countries, where traditional systems are still used in similar contests.

MIWC Awards

The medals are classified according to the score obtained as Gold, Silver and, as of 2019, the Mexico Medal is given in the category of best red, white, rosé, sparkling and sweet wine.

Know our history

1993

COFRADIA del vino of Ensenada created the 1st. International Wine Competition in Mexico.
2007

The Asociación de Vinicultores of Baja California transferred the rights of the International Contest "Ensenada, Tierra del Vino" to the UABC.
2012

Within the framework of CIETVO, the "Coloquio del Vino, Cultura, Ciencia y Enconomía" is held with the purpose of providing an academic, research and cultural space.
2021

The contest was renewed as Mexico International wine Competition, to be internationally recognized as the Mexican wine competition. The colloquium was also renewed as "Coloquio Internacional del Vino" with the purpose of having a more outstanding international projection.

UABC is the first and only University in the world responsible for organizing an International Wine Competition in its entirety.
